These include fineness of knotting in relation to other rugs from the same area, the quality of execution of the knots, the rarity, beauty and execution of the design, the quality of the pile, the condition, the shape, the dyes and the colours used, the rarty of the rug and the finishing of the edges and fringe. (Different criteria may apply to the purchase of old and antique rugs). It should be said at the outset, however, that you should not aim for perfection.
